Today, we are releasing some major changes to CPS-002 (Training Policy) with some accompanying minor changes to CPS-001 (General Policy).
Training Policy Updates
Introduction of Training Queue system (see for details below)
Update solo endorsement duration to be 45 days (with no renewal besides exceptional circumstances)
Add mentor-in-training role separate from RPO role (see for details below)
General Policy Updates
Require using up-to-date controlling client profiles
Add exception for OBS controllers waiting in the training queue to prevent them from being removed
Training Queue Details
You will join a training queue for each rating/endorsement - the form is linked on the website under Controllers → Training Queue
Once you complete waiting, you will be assigned a primary mentor/instructor based on the schedule you submit
You will not be able to post availability until you have completed waiting and have been assigned a primary mentor/instructor
Most of your training will be with your primary mentor, but other mentors may train you at certain points as well
While waiting, you will be required to confirm your placement in the queue at the beginning of each month (you lose your place if you do not)
While training, you are required to complete at least one session every month (reach out to your primary mentor if you think you will not hit this requirement)
Here is how we'll transition to the new system:
Anyone who has trained in the past two months (April or May) will be considered in "actively training" (as if you'd completed waiting in the relevant queue) status for the month of June
Those who meet the conditions above will be able to post availability as normal through the end of June
Before the end of June, you must put in a request to join the training queue if you would like to continue training (you can do so via the Controllers → Training Queue link in the website nav), or your permissions to post training availability will be removed
Starting July 1st, ZOA will be operating on a fully training queue basis
RPO Program Details
An RPO will attend training session and assist the mentor/instructor with operating the simulated planes/simulated pilots
You can become an RPO even if you do not want to become a mentor
Being an RPO is a great way to accelerate your learning, by attending training sessions and understanding how it works behind the scenes
Reach out to the TA if you are interested!
